Ho Chi Minh City has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century when it was a small fishing village. It grew significantly under French colonial rule, becoming a major trade center in Southeast Asia.

The city played a crucial role during the Vietnam War and was known as Saigon until the fall of the city in 1975, after which it was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in honor of the revolutionary leader.
