History - Houston

Founded in 1836 by land speculators John Kirby Allen and Augustus Chapman Allen, Houston quickly grew as a trading post due to its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. The city was named after Sam Houston, a key figure in Texas history, and became the capital of the Republic of Texas for a brief period.

Throughout the 20th century, Houston expanded rapidly, becoming a center for the oil industry and space exploration. The establishment of NASA's Johnson Space Center in the 1960s solidified its reputation as a hub for innovation and technology.
