Carcross was originally a trading post for the Tagish First Nation and later became a key stop during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1800s. The town's name comes from the Carcross area, which is derived from the Tagish word for 'water crossing'.

The arrival of the White Pass and Yukon Route railway in 1900 further established Carcross as a vital transportation hub. Today, remnants of its gold rush past can still be seen in the architecture and local stories.
